Taking the Lead Pet Services was established in 2018 and is owned and run by myself, Lisa Brown.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR DOG

I will work with you to help you understand how your dog learns and give you the skills required to teach your dog the desired behaviours.

Throughout all of this I will take into account your experience, lifestyle, situation, your dog’s personality and experience and will design a plan that works for you.

SCIENCE-BASED DOG TRAINING

I am passionate about using force free, science based training methods to help you build a great bond with your dog and enhance your relationship to enable them to live comfortably in our world and live happily in our homes. I love teaching dogs new skills and behaviours to help them relax into their lives and learn how to feel comfortable in their environment.

ABOUT LISA

HI, I’m LISA

I live in Deception Bay, Brisbane, with my partner and our family of dogs and horses. We have 2 beautiful dogs – Buddy is a Black Labrador cross Wolfhound and Whiskey is a Great Dane cross Wolfhound.

I am originally from the UK and moved over to Brisbane in August 2018 to start a new life here in Australia! My previous yellow labrador, Darcy, moved over from the UK with me and features heavily in all aspects of my training. Buddy joined me in June 2019. After losing Darcy in February 2024 we welcomed Whiskey into our lives. I also adopted a horse called Dori in March 2020 and a second horse, Ty, in June 2021.

What we do

A LOVE OF ANIMALS

I’ve always loved being around animals but Darcy is the reason I found such a huge love of dog training. She came to me when she was almost 3 and had been through multiple homes before arriving with very little socialisation as a puppy. As a result, she struggled in new situations and places she didn’t know and could be very reactive to other dogs when on lead. Darcy was diagnosed with generalised anxiety. It was been a long road to a place where she felt comfortable in her day to day life and for her to join me on camping trips and holidays (which I never thought she’d be able to do!) but she taught me a huge amount and continued to amaze me every day of her life. Buddy is very different to Darcy, he’s very goofy and always has me in fits of laughter and Whiskey is completely different again and even goofier than Buddy (which I didn’t believe was possible!)

My journey with Darcy pushed me to start looking in to why dogs behave the way they do and what I can do to help them feel more comfortable in their lives. This led to me start studying with The Institute of Modern Dog Trainers and I successfully completed my assessment with them in July 2018 and received an OCN Principles of Dog Training and Behaviour.

COURSES & CERTIFICATES

I believe there is always more to learn so I am continually expanding my knowledge with various courses, seminars and books to ensure that I keep up to date with the latest information.

I completed my Fear Free Certification in October 2020.

I’m have completed various courses since including a Scent Work Course and Canine Reactive Behaviour Advanced Certificate.

I am currently working towards my Level 6 Diploma in Clinical Canine Behaviour which I’m thoroughly enjoying!

HELPING DOGS THROUGH TRAINING

I have a huge interest in helping anxious, reactive and rescue dogs and an interest in canine enrichment. I’m always trying to find new, fun ways to keep animals mentally stimulated and discovering new ways for them to be able to have an outlet for natural behaviours.

I currently offer one-on-one dog and puppy training, puppy pre-school classes, life skills classes, online & phone support and training walks.
